Description of farming experience

Raised on 10 acres in the Pacific Northwest, cows, horses, chickens, ducks, large vegetable gardens, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, apple orchards, etc. Lots of canning every summer and fall ~ Grandma Grace rarely went to the grocery store because she said something was wrong with store bought items - it didn't taste right or feel right to her. Now we know a lot more about why she did as much as she could herself. For me this was the 70's and 80's growing up. I've grown my own fruit and vegetables as often as I could ever since. Most recently with raising children, in addition to gardening we added a pony and then goats... then a dairy cow and her calf, chickens, ducks etc. We ended up butchering the calf at about 3 years and everyone said it was the best tasting beef ever! We wanted to see if this was true... so we went out many times purchasing organic beef - free range... grass fed beef... etc. Costco, Whole Foods, Butchers, Private Ranches... we tried so many... we cooked them side by side with our Jersey/Angus non castrated bull ~ nothing compared to what we had raised ourselves.... ours was better in every way. Our conclusion is that when people do something only for or primarily for profit they cut corners and we pay for it - literally. Our farming experience has taught us to always do our very best with positive loving intentions and integrity, avoiding cutting any corners, continue to learn and grow, continue to improve as much as possible. The results seem to always exceeded our expectations.

Arrangement description

Interested in finding a landowner who would like to preserve and improve upon what is currently there. Regenerate, create, organize systems that allow Nature to thrive in ways that are exceptional for all living things that share the space. Ultimately duplicating what works... possibly in other states and even other countries... so those extraordinary people involved have a plan b, c, d, and maybe even e! in addition to a backup plan - allowing for diversity - New England apples - Florida oranges for a quick example (:

Planned farming practices

  • Sustainable/regenerative
  • Better than Organic

Farming practices description

After working on a certified organic farm, it appears that there are healthier farming practices (for the land and humans) than " certified organic" . We worked on a certified organic farm that supplied the local Whole Foods grocery stores with a large portion of their produce. This farm had truckloads of chicken manure delivered from the nearby conventional factory farms. They also used farmed fish fertilizer... the soil was light brown... looked completely dead... we never saw so much as a worm! But they grew good looking lettuce! We would like to grow nutrient dense fruits and vegetables in rich living soil with a higher degree of health and quality than certified organic.

Planned farming enterprises

  • Livestock
  • Vegetables
  • Orchards, fruits, vegetables, cattle, goats, chickens, ducks

Farming enterprises description

Ultimately farming is about feeding people right. Rotating some crops and animals can improve overall health of animals, and yields so that would be something to focus on - portable chicken coops etc. If a carrot can be grown with NPK in light brown dusty dead desert soil… then that carrot grown in dark brown or black soil teeming with life is healthier, it looks much better, tastes far better, and most likely has many, many more nutrients and qualities that nourish and cleanse the human body. We want to build the best soil possible and that will include composting... With enough resources we could utilize something like what Michael Smith is doing in Montana with Regeni-tec. It would be immensely valuable to prove the efficacy of this through high quality laboratory testing. If carrots or lets say cattle… purchased in the average grocery store have say... for an uneducated guess... 15 vitamins and minerals and a high quality regenerative farm produces carrots and cattle that consistently show through lab testing to have 50 or more vitamins and minerals ~ then, in my humble opinion, with the proof in hand, the only challenge will be growing enough carrots and raising enough cattle to meet the desire for them.

Infrastructure needed

  • Farm buildings
  • Housing
  • Livestock shelter/housing

Description of infrastructure needed

Ideally those people who are farming every day would live very close or on the farm. A possibility is to build sustainable tiny houses designed to withstand the elements and time... stone, earth, steel... I can appreciate Mike Reynolds earthship designs (without the tires) that utilize southern exposure, while harvesting rainwater and using grey water to grow the surrounding permaculture. We may have a container connection... lots of infrastructure possibilities with repurposing what can be saved from demolition and remodeling projects... wood and windows... etc. for barns, greenhouses, and or off the grid tiny houses.

Business planning description

So few things go according to plan... and the person who writes the plan today may have learned, grown, and have different ideas weeks and months down the road. Much prefer to have a clear purpose that creates real honest value for people ~ something that is fairly simple and everyone involved agrees on ~ then moving forward towards that purpose with as much effort as is possible while maintaining a healthy mind and body. Most people don't need motivation or a plan to do something they are truly interested in and enjoy doing... Grandpa always said “Just do something… even if it’s wrong” He meant wrong as in a mistake because if we are taking action then we are likely learning while moving forward getting something done in reality vs thinking about it, putzing around and procrastinating. Being organized and consistently profitable requires some experience for sure, and we would welcome with open arms anyone and everyone who has the necessary experience to make these ideas a reality ~ then with mostly common sense and good communication... learning and improving every single day while having a good time with people that are nice and fun to be around.

Additional Information

Hey there, My name is Marty... I'm a single father of two homeschooled teenagers... basically all grown up now. They have discussed what they would like to do in this life... so many possibilities today. And life moves forward. Where does the time go? Who can possibly know what the next 25 to 50 years will look like? Who knows about the next 5?! And behind the technology and innovation they realize the foundation of it all is a healthy mind and body. Without our health what do we really have? Dis-ease is taking people of all ages... mental and physical - youth is no longer a guarantee of health like it used to be when I was growing up. So the first and most basic thing we all need is the absolute best and most nutrient dense food possible to feed these bodies - who would want anything less than the best food and water when really the main thing that is keeping us here alive and functioning is these bodies? Especially the affluent it seems could afford to produce ever better and better food sources (Maybe some education is needed in this area :)

Then in addition to nutrition ~ water ~ Pure water is and will be an even bigger issue in the future it seems. Another reason to organize with others to own and have the best land available in different states as well as different countries is to ensure that pure water is available for future generations along with nutrient rich soil. Always open to ideas, willing to adapt to changes, see challenges instead of problems, desire to live in peace and harmony with the land and all it's creatures. Always deeply grateful for the time we have here and the people who share their journey with us. It is such an absolutely beautiful day today ~ Thank you for your time reading these thoughts and ideas, we look forward to talking about possibilities with whomever feels inspired to reach out and contact us.
