We began to build this house in 1982 and have been at it ever since. It is unconventional, unique, artsy. It is solid, beautiful,snug. It is in very good condition. We heat multiple ways. We have a masonry Finnish heater that I built, a cook stove, and radiant flooring. We are also passive solar. There are 3 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths.

Description

This land was abandoned in the 1940's. We bought the land in 1980. Much of our time here has been spent building our house and clearing the fields. We have gardened extensively over the years and did farmers markets and fairs for many years although we have never attempted to earn our living from farming. We have both worked out to support our lifestyles and build our house. We would like to see the farm continue to grow and continue to produce lots of great food for whoever lives here and to help support the farm. We love the farm we have built here but are moving toward retirement and traveling. We plan to move to Waterville as Arleen finishes her career at Colby. During that time we will be available to consult or assist whoever comes here. Then we plan to travel for several years and it would wonderful to think of someone enjoying this great place and working to make it even better for who ever follows.

There are always improvements we have in mind but it is currently very livable. We lived with solar power and outdoor plumbing for 15 years but now have power and flush but we do have solar back up for lights and a hand pump. Good shower. We are set back from the road and it is a very peaceful spot. In 35 years we have gotten along well with our neighbors and everyone in town. I am currently the town manager in Brighton Plt.
