Additional Information

When we purchased the farm in 2008, although it was certified organic, the land had been badly neglected for several years. With great effort and patience, the now-cultivated areas of the farm have been painstakingly transformed into an oasis of nearly perfect soil, where a variety of crops are able to thrive. We have maintained our organic certification through MOFGA, and have managed our soils according to certified organic protocol, i.e., through the careful management of the types of minerals added and withheld, microbes, compost, crop rotation, etc. Rocky, weedy terrain is now happy, rich, velvety earth. (Soil data available; tested yearly).

Encroaching brush has been tirelessly cleared, and we have added 9 hoop houses over the last several years, enabling crops to grow earlier in the spring, and later into the fall than outdoor crops. We have planted a blueberry field, and encouraged the growth of wildflowers to stimulate the population of helpful insects and pollinators.

Charlie's Redhouse Farm offers a unique opportunity for a new farmer to come, live, and farm with us, in the hope that a working relationship will lead to new ownership, and that this farm will carry on for generations to come. Kees Overgaag, who has overseen the farm's transformation over the last decade is an excellent teacher, and a judicious farmer. Please: serious inquiries only. Farming experience is helpful, but common sense, a strong work ethic, and willingness to honor commitment are the only true pre-requisites.
