We have lived on this older former dairy farm for about 30 years, raising our 3 Children, who all were involved in the 4H Sheep Club. We’ve continued raising sheep for meat since. Our goal, after a complete renovation on the house and 175 year old, 3 story, post and beam barn, is to make this farm sustainable and keep it productive. We love looking out on the Green Pastures, brook and pond. We are hoping to find someone who will love and appreciate what a special place this is, that will benefit them as well as us.
We are ideally looking for a tenant who is a small-scale livestock farmer with some demonstrable experience in livestock husbandry. (We would love to see or visit your current operation to understand your management and livestock care practices.)
The barn and current infrastructure are well set up for small scale livestock (sheep, goats, poultry, etc). Other types of livestock could certainly be a conversation. Several small fenced-in paddocks abut the barn, with additional non-fenced mixed wooded pasture land on a hillside above the barn, and several smaller non-fenced open pastures available across the road.
(We let a local dairy farmer use the two larger hayfields across the road to keep those fields useful and productive in the near and intermediate future, so they are *not* part of this advertisement at this time. However, in a longer-term lease, they may become available to rent/use as well at some future time.)
Some garden space is also available on the property (expansion of it is negotiable), if you would like to produce some vegetables, flowers, or other annual crops.
Work Trade: Because we still enjoy being involved with livestock, but are looking to no longer own or manage our own flock, we welcome the opportunity to assist you with chores as part of a work-trade agreement. We also would benefit from a tenant who is willing to assist us with property tasks such as cordwood stacking and property maintenance. We would carefully codify and agree (in writing) what the parameters of such a work-trade would look like, what the expectations are, and how it affects rent.
