Community Farm looking for New Farmers to take over!!
Very unique situation to make the farm more accessible, a long term lease with the land stewards, and a possibility to rent or buy the infrastructure.
The farm is owned by a partnership between the Land Stewards and the former farmers. Many options are possible for the right farmer.
We are looking for a team or individual who is able to grow beautiful vegetables for the existing school programs, and can take
advantage of the preexisting community connections. Looking for people with some production experience and lots of enthusiasm and
a desire to interact with the community through schools, food pantries, and the farm stand.
All the equipment, buildings and business infrastructure are for sale for $50,000 or for lease or lease to own at $5,000 per year. This also gives you access to a very advantageous lease with possibility of buying the land over time. The land lease is $150 per month and it covers the land taxes, the well and road maintenance. We are hoping for a longer term commitment. Possibilities to buy the land after a period of time are available.
Over the last eight years, Folklore Farm has made a precious link with the community and the non-profit organizations and transitioned from a more market oriented model to a community based farming model adapted to Down-east Maine.(Cherryfield/MIlbridge). The current farmers have an amazing opportunity abroad and want to see the farm continue to serve the community niches and prosper. We are looking for an experienced individual or team to take over the operation. (Think Market Gardener meets Community Activist) Folklore Farm grows vegetables for local school programs and food pantries, as well as having a thriving roadside Farm Stand. Established contracts with food pantries/schools/ local community organizations for produce at Organic market Value($15K - $45K(2020)). Lots of traffic for farmstand on rt 1. Farmstead averages $100 per day July through October - $5-10K per year of sales
