Additional Information
Renaissance Farms has a unique opportunity for farmers, graziers, and agroforesters to lease approximately 20 acres of crop and hay land, 50 acres of open pasture, and/or 150 acres of woodland at our farm in Barre, Massachusetts. This is ideal for those looking to expand their operations with livestock, forestry, or crop production.
We are open to year-to-year leases (cash or in-kind) or longer-term leases for those willing to contribute to infrastructure improvements as part of a longer-term collaboration.
Grazing Operations
The 20 acres of cropland is available to grow hay, herbs, greens, and cut flowers, 50 acres of pasture are available for goats, sheep, and cattle. We require graziers to use NoFence technology, eliminating the need for physical fences or electric netting. This system is portable, saves time on fence maintenance, and keeps costs lower for both parties.
- Livestock guardian dogs/animals are welcome, provided they can be socialized to our family and other animals.
Agroforestry & Woodland Lease
The 150 acres of woodland are suitable for agroforestry practices, including silvopasture, tree crops, or forest farming. If you're interested in sustainably integrating trees and grazing or pursuing forestry-based agricultural practices, we'd love to hear your ideas. There is currently a Grimm evaporator with pans on site for sugaring operations.
Crop Production
We also welcome farmers interested in growing greens, herbs, and/or cut flowers, or hay. The land has excellent potential for crop production, and we are happy to explore lease terms tailored to your needs, whether you're looking to grow in open fields or experiment with integrating crops within forested areas. There is currently a small outbuilding with water and electricity as well as a 50 sq ft walk in cooler. This area is ideal for conversion to wash/pack. One of the crop locations is also equipped with a 22'x96' high tunnel. Irrigation in this location is pumped from the perennial brook.
Lease Terms
- We offer cash leases or in-kind arrangements and are open to flexible terms.
- Longer-term leases are possible for those interested in contributing to infrastructure improvements (e.g., buildings, irrigation, soil improvements, or shared farm equipment).
- Collaborative Permaculture Design: All leaseholders must be willing to work within our permaculture design plan, ensuring that your operations align with our sustainable and regenerative land-use goals.
