Property for lease

Greetings Farmer Friends - I am working on returning two family parcels into agricultural production. I have been farming elsewhere and recently moved to Newtown. I plan to implement regenerative and climate smart agricultural practices to grow greens, herbs, fruits, flowers & medicines in the soil and hydroponically. The goal is to grow healthy food for local communities while upholding environmental, social, and economic sustainability.

I am seeking other farmer(s) to partner with and collaborate on these projects. I would also be happy to discuss other farmers sharing the land to lead their own projects. We could discuss short/long-term lease, partnerships, shared ownership, or other arrangements. Let's sit, walk, & discuss our visions for the future.

Additional Information

The 2.8 acres are undeveloped and sit in between two residential properties in Newtown near exit 9 of I-84. The land has not been developed since it ceased being used for farming likely 50-100 years ago. There are some sloping and some flat areas of the land. While the property is listed as R-2, the Newtown zoning code is very pro-farmer and permits commercial agriculture on residential land, which certain stipulations. We can discuss these regulations further.

The land is quite overgrown, so we would have to come up with a plan, such as applying for appropriate grants, and preparing the land for our projects. The soil quality is likely in very good shape as described by the Web Soil Survey as mostly composed of Paxton fine sandy loam. Newtown GIS map can be found at this link: https://newtown.mapxpress.net/ags_map/default.htm?GIS_LINK=5-3-30.

I am open to discussing different types of arrangements in order to best serve other farmers, community members, in order to grow healthy food and medicines for people.

Newtown is an interesting historic town on the south-western edge of New England. It certainly has its colonial heritage, but has growing communities of color and diversity of life perspectives and philosophies. The community loves to support small-businesses and there are many unique farms, restaurants, stores, and other businesses in the town and surrounding area.

Feel free to reach out with any comments or questions!
